The Winter Workwear Guide

Get kitted out for this winter

As the dark, wet days of winter fast approach and the summer sun seem a distant memory, it’s about this time you start thinking about how to keep yourself warm and dry through another gloomy season.

For those of you who work outdoors all year round clothing is especially important. It’s crucial you get it right as it’s never pleasant dealing being too cold or, as is easily done, too warm. So it’s beneficial that you familiarise yourself with layering.

Quite simply it’s a system that allows you to easily adjust your temperature to suit your activity or environment by adding or removing layers of clothing.

Typically we’re talking Thermals for both upper and lower parts of the body. Newer fabrics are now designed to draw moisture away from the body keeping the wearer dryer when doing physical labour.

Mid Layer

This tight fitting lightweight layer traps the heat to stop air flow too close to the skin with Micro-fleeces perfect for this. With an extensive assortment to choose from you will easily find one that suits you.

Outer Layer

This is the layer that keeps out the wind and rain. It has to be tough to stand up to whatever type of work undertaken yet flexible enough not to encumber the wearer. It’s also worth considering how breathable the jacket is as manual labour can easily leave you overheating.

Head and Hands

This really goes without say. You can lose a lot of heat through your head so a woollen or thermal hat is essential.

Your job will dictate the type of gloves that’s best for you. Standard gloves are fine for basic work but if your tasks require a bit more finger dexterity it’s a good idea to chose some thermal lined safety gloves.

A good pair of well fitting thermal socks are essential, working with cold feet is never pleasant. As for your footwear that really depends on the wearer. Whether it’s wellingtons, safety boots or shoes we have a large selection to chose from.

Other pieces of clothing to consider

Some people prefer body warmers over jackets as these are less restrictive and allow easier movement for the arms.

Winter is dark and it’s always better to err on the side of caution. It’s a good idea to think about safety gear. Reflective safety vests and trousers help you stand out and don’t restrict you too much.

Kylemark stock all these products and will make sure you’re perfectly kitted out for the winter. We can also easily personalise with embroidery or print making your work uniform look professional, promoting your business to the full.
