You Calling Me Soft?
There’s nothing weak about these hard wearing Softshell Jackets
The ever increasing popularity of the Softshell Jacket tells you that these garments are here to stay. But why so popular when they’re not as warm as a fleece or as waterproof as a Hardshell? Where do they sit in the spectrum of today’s jackets?
Personally a softshell is my jacket of choice. It’s more flexible than your more bulky hardshell and I’ve never really taken to the fleece. It’s very comfortable to wear and I like the feel of the fabric with designs often more fashionable than the other choices.
Many industries are now seeing it as a necessity. Popular in leisure, construction and hospitality each sees it’s merits for their own purposes. Being more breathable than the hardshell but more wind and water resistant than the fleece it is a good compromise, allowing the wearer to cut down on cumbersome multi-layers.
Softshells vary greatly in their breathability and water resistance so picking the right one can be a tricky business. There are two main types, Membrane and Stretch-woven, providing different properties but it’s sometimes hard to distinguish between them so it’s crucial to read the item description thoroughly.
Membrane are completely windproof and for most purposes waterproof but this does restrict how breathable these jackets are. Stretch-woven to is windproof but will only protect you from drizzle and showers. This style though is much more breathable, drawing moisture away from the skin.
Easily personalised with either embroidery or printing, getting your company branding across couldn’t be more straightforward.
